Thank you, Isai, for another thought-provoking article. While Tanzania is making notable progress in digital transformation, particularly within financial services, the user experience of many digital tools still needs to be improved. To effectively address the valid cash challenges faced by SMEs, we must prioritize enhancing the customer's interaction with digital money solutions. The benefits must outweigh their current experiences with cash transactions.

What new experiences do these digital solutions offer compared to traditional cash transactions? While the adoption of some use cases for cashless payments, such as peer-to-peer transfers (P2P), government bill payments (P2G) and some social sales (over Instagram and Twitter), is relatively higher, the usage of digital solutions for retail payments seems to be lagging. The answer to this isn’t not on the side of the SMEs but to retail customers. Why would a person be “willing” to pay digitally in the proximity of a merchant (physically present at the shop)? What are the benefits to this customer – especially when surcharges are involved?

To guide future development, we must critically examine why this is the case. This examination is crucial for our collective understanding and will help us make informed decisions for the future.
